The Inventor Derrick Charbonnet, P. E. lives on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, a long way from snow. He has visited Alaska many times and enjoys the winter and Mushing.
He received his Mechanical Engineering degree from Tulane University in 1981 and has spent his career creating and designing new products and machinery. When his family visited Alaska the first time, they became friends with the Seavey family in Sterling (Mitch won the Iditarod in 2004). This friendship introduced him to Mushing, it also got him thinking about how to improve the equipment. Many conversations with Mitch lead them to try to improve the means of attaching the plastic to the runner. We also have some other ideas in the works, but we can't talk about those yet.
Derrick currently lives on (almost) the beach in Ocean Springs with his wife and two children. He is also Scoutmaster of Troop 211.
